Vera Lowe Gamble passed away at the age of 92 years at Glenwood Rehab February 17, 2014. She lived at Montreat Apts. for 17 years and loved every minute with the friends she had made. She was a friend to all. Vera worked at Big Star Super Market for 25 years. She was loved by all who knew her and she loved everyone.
Mrs. Gamble is survived by one son who was her pride and joy, Billy G. Gamble (Joyce); two grandsons, Gregory G. Gamble (Deanna) of Arkansas and Jim Gamble; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Ryan Gamble (Angie) who serves in the US Army and Audrey Grace Gamble of Arkansas; one great-great-grandchild, Abrie Elizabeth Gamble. She loved the grandchildren more than life.
She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, Florence. She was the last surviving child of Elmer Lowe and Lizzie Lowe Holland. She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband Merrill Matthew (Bill) Gamble and her grandson Thomas Michael Gamble; brothers, Elmer (Shorty), Albert, Benford (Red), and William Bennett (Pooky); sisters, Mable Foust, Lillie Chapin, and Elsie King.
Visitation will be at Elkins Funeral Home Wednesday, February 19, 2014, from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 20, 2014, at 2 PM at First Free Will Baptist Church, Florence, she will lie in state from 1-2PM, with Rev. Chris Compton and Rev. Phil Cooper officiating. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Clarence Prestage, Buddy L. Armstrong, Bobby Holly, Robert Gamble, Ronnie Wiginton, and Allen Morgan.
