Viola (Brinkley) Reed Decatur
Our beloved "Granny Reed" and "Great Granny" went to be with Jesus on Jan. 23, 2010 . She was born March 15, 1912. She was the beloved wife of the late H. H. Reed for more than 65 years. "Granny Reed" worked for the Good Year Corporation in Decatur for 35 years in the mill. Granny loved to garden and especially loved roses. Most of her recent time was spent crocheting and reading scriptures from the Bible with her family. She was saved and baptized at the age of 17 and served the Lord until her last earthly breath. She dutifully attended South Decatur Church of God until the last month before her passing and even asked that the Pastor "stop by her house and pick up her tithes," as she was in the hospital and could not take them herself. She believed that you must pay your tithes before anything else. "Granny Reed" baby sat for a number of children and families during her retirement, and she loved those children as if they were her own. Her warm smile and loving hugs will be heartbreakingly missed. Survivors include two sons, A.J. Reed and wife Virginia of Huntsville and Harvey "Wayne" Reed and wife Peggy of Decatur; four grandchildren that brought great joy to her heart and a smile to her face, Tina Reed Ennis and husband Larry of Decatur, Cynthia R. Marte and husband Lane of NewPort, Tenn., Darrell Reed and wife Lori of Huntsville, and Tammy D. Reed of San Diego, Calif.; eight great-grand-children, Richard W. Ennis, Christopher J. Crow and wife Candy of NewPort, Tenn., formerly of Somerville, Taylor and Tiffany Reed, both of Huntsville, Catherine A. Crow, Brandon Ennis and Matthew Ennis, all of Decatur, and Amber Stovall Marte of Newport, Tenn.; and two great-great-grand-children, that she absolutely adored more than words could ever express, Caden Reed Ennis of Decatur and Jadyn Marie Crow of Newport, Tenn., formerly of Somerville. Special thanks to Dr. Kirk Jackson and staff, Hopsice of North Alabama and staff, Bro. Bobby Morgan, Pastor Jay and Lynn Rhodes, Brother and Sister Veal and Nancy Holmes Parker. Also, great thanks to many close friends of "Granny''s" and the members of South Decatur Church of God. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout''s Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Morgan officiating.
