Virginia Jewell McMurtrey Donahue, age 82, of Florence, AL, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008. She was a native of Lauderdale County, Alabama, a member of Wood Avenue Church of Christ, Florence, and a retired court reporter.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Elkins Chapel with Bro. Kenneth Davis, of Wood Avenue Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at North Carolina Church of Christ cemetery.
Ms. Donahue spent her last few years as a resident at the Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She participated in its many activities, including the Ms. Mitchell-Hollingsworth competition where she was named second runner up and the 2008 Prom Dance where she was crowned Prom Queen. She loved being with and talking to people. An avid crossword puzzle and Sudoki solver solver, she made many crafts, usually giving them away as soon as she had made them. But one of her favorite hobbies was Japanese Bunka, earning herself and article in the newspaper. She loved to teach Bunka to anyone who wanted to learn. Jenny made everyone around her smile, and her laughter will forever be missed.
Survivors are daughter, Tara Shayne Donahue Hall, of Grass Valley, California; granddaughter Chelsea Emerson of Sacramento, California; sisters Louise Driver of Florence, Cindy McMurtrey Johnson (Bob) of Birmingham, DeLois McMurtrey Crawford (John) of Chula Vista; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ms. Donahue was preceded in death by her parents, John Noah McMurtrey and Mattie lee Joiner McMurtrey. Pallbearers are nephews.
The family thanks the staff of Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Hospice of the Shoals for the loving care, concern, and friendship they showed Jenny.
