Decatur
Funeral for W.H. "Dick" Bates, 84, of Decatur will be today, January 23, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Bates, who died Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at his residence, was born October 12, 1926, in Morgan County to James Bates and Myrtle Jones Bates. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mavis Ilean Bates.
He is survived by one son, David Bates and his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Veronica Clark and her husband, Ken, and Kim Rossi and her husband, Tony; one brother, James "Shorty" Bates; three sisters, Louise South, Hazel Garrison and Jimmie McKay; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Roger Hale, Arnold Legg, Ed Skelton, Johnny Garrison, Jared Hal and Jason Lawler.
