Mr. W. R. "Dub" Bevis, age 77, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday April 7, 2009 at ECM Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Bevis will be on Friday April 10, 2009 at 1 pm at Jackson Heights Church of Christ with Bro. Kelby Smith, Bro. Brian Jarrett, and Bro. Ronnie Pannel officiating. Mr. Bevis will lie in state at the church from 12 pm until funeral time. Burial will follow in Tri Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday April 9, 2009 from 6 pm until 9 pm at Elkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Bevis was a retired Fire Chief with the Florence Fire Department after 38 + years of service. He was a member of the Jackson Heights Church of Christ. Mr. Bevis was also a member of The International Association of Fire Chiefs, The Association of Fire Chiefs of North Alabama, and the Knights of Pythias. He loved spending time with his special great granddaughters whom he called his "little sidekicks". He also enjoyed fishing and taking walks with Mom. Mr. Bevis was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Emma Jackson Bevis, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Mr. Bevis is survived by his loving wife, Frances Bevis of Florence; his children, Pamela Kay Morrow (Larry) of Florence and Jeffrey Lance Bevis (Carol) of Florence; his grandchildren, Kimberly Forsythe (Damien), Amanda Pigg (Derek), Jared Bevis, and Jacob Bevis (Christina); his great grandchildren, Valerie Forsythe, Kaylee Forsythe, Ella Grace Pigg, and Haliegh Rose Bevis; and his nephews, Charles "Sonny" Medford, Bill Bevis, and Larry Bevis.
Pallbearers will be Jared Bevis, Jacob Bevis, Ray Willis, Charles Burchell, Reed Canerdy, and Rex Lemley.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, The American Cancer Society, or the Association for Alzheimer''s Research.
