Obituary

Walker H. Graham passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 12, 2009.
The graveside service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Chris Underwood will officiate.
Born to Nathan and Ada Graham on November 9, 1924, he was the youngest of seven children. He was educated in Colbert County and graduated from Deshler High School.
As a veteran of World War II, he served as an aircraft instrument technician in the Panama Canal Zone working on P38 aircraft. After the war, he met and married Frankie Abbott.
He worked as a watchmaker for J.W. Somers Jewelry Store in downtown Florence and later became manager of the Best Jewelers stores in Sheffield and Southgate Mall in Muscle Shoals. A successful salesman, he purchased Grogan Jewelers and returned to downtown Florence. Together, he and his wife owned and operated the store for many years.
As a prominent businessman, he served on the Board of Directors of Central Bank of Alabama, and was a member of the Civitan Club, the Tri-Cities Quarterback Club, and other civic organizations.
He was a true Southern gentleman and a loving and generous husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed life by traveling with good friends, playing golf and boating at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club. A self-taught guitar player, he still loved to play even late in life. His smile will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years, Frankie, and five siblings, Cullen Graham and wife Nell, Ben Graham and wife Viva, John Graham, Elna Lowery and husband Leonard, and Grace James and husband Dennis. John''s wife, Louise, survives.
He is survived by a brother Nathan Graham, Jr. and wife Evelyn, Lavergne, TN; children Carol Swindle and husband Kenny, Florence, and Mary Jane Bailey and husband Roger, Birmingham; grandchildren Chad Swindle and wife Kimberly, Florence, and Cory Holder and husband Chad, Brentwood, TN.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Swindle, Roger Bailey, Chad Swindle, Chad Holder, Richie Richardson and Kenneth Staggs.
As a member of Highland Baptist Church, he requested any donations be made to the church building fund
