Wayne Dean, 68, of Center Star, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at ECM Hospital after a brief illness. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. today at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home, Center Star. The funeral will follow at noon in the chapel, with Todd Walton officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Bluewater Cemetery at Mitchelltown. Wayne served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was retired from Reynolds Alloys. He was passionate about fishing and gardening, Alabama football, Braves baseball and his church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manon and Mable Dean; a daughter, Hayley Deanna Dean; and his wife, Ann. He is survived by his daughter, Keri Dodd, Killen; grandchildren, Victoria Hayley Dodd, Alexandria Patton Dodd and Carrington Riley Dodd; sisters, Peggy Ezell and husband, Pat, Center Star, and Judy Pettus, Madison, Ala.; and brother, Jimmy Dean, Center Star. Pallbearers will be Bill Steen, Ray Masonia, Carrington Dodd, Mitchell Stease, Greg Ezell, Butch Stanley and Larry Comer. Gene Wisdom will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
