Wesley Ennis Patton Jr
Wesley Ennis Patton Jr., age 96, of Florence, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2008 at home with his family.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on East Mobile St. in Florence Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 4 p.m. with Rev. Samuel Pope and Dr. James K Thompson officiating. There will be a Visitation on Friday June 20, 2008 from 6pm to 8pm at Elkins Funeral Home in Florence.
Mr. Patton was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Ennis and Julia Florence Maitland Patton, wives Mary Caroline Sammons Patton and Virginia Bartlett Kingsley Patton, and daughter Caroline Patton Young; brothers, James Maitland Patton wife Mary and John Coolidge Patton wife Nancy.
Mr. Patton graduated from the University of Tennessee and received his B.S. in civil engineering. He has been a member of Rotary Club International Florence Chapter since 1941. He served as treasurer for 15 years and President. He was just recently given a Life Time Honorary membership. Mr. Patton retired as owner of Campbell Motors Ford Dealership which is now Family Ford. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for 75 years. He was a past president of the Memphis area Ford Dealers Association. Mr. Patton was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was a charter member of the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club, was a Captain in the U.S. Army/Airforce during WWII. He was also a member of St. Andrews Society, Maitland Clan. Mr. Patton scored 5 holes in one in his lifetime along with being in the golf hall of fame.
He is survived by his son, Wesley Ennis Patton III wife Lynn; daughter, Susan Patton Robinson husband James; step-sons, Philip Kingsley wife Margie and, Bart Kingsley wife Stephanie; step-daughter Virginia B. Kingsley. Grandchildren, Thomas William Young wife Liz, Benjamin Maury Young, Andrew Patton Young, James Dardis Robinson V wife Amy, Wesley Patton Robinson; step- grandchildren Cliff Darby wife Amy, Liza Darby, John Kingsley, Laura Kingsley, Carrie Kingsley and Ben Kingsley; nieces, Nancy Patton Langdon husband Jim, Florence Patton Ryan husband Bill and Lynne Patton Witherington husband John. Great-grandchildren, Chance Young, Anne Wesley Young, step- great-grandchildren Will Darby and Sam Darby.
Active pallbearers are Mr. Patton''s Grandsons and Great-Grandson. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Florence Rotary Club.
All memorials to be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Florence.
