Funeral services for Wilfred D. "Will" Spencer of Decatur will be Friday April 23, 2010, at St John's Episcopal Church with Rector Richard Lawson officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of the Church, service to begin at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Internment after the service will be held in the garden.
Mr. Spencer died Saturday April 17, 2010, at Decatur General Hospital after a long illness. He was born July 27, 1938, in Booneville, Miss. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Vera Spencer; and brother, James Franklin. Will was a graduate of Booneville High School (1957), member of the 1957 All American High School football team. He received a football scholarship to The University of Southern Mississippi and played on the 1958 National Championship Team recently inducted into the State of Mississippi Hall of Fame. Will met his wife, Jean, while attending The University of Southern Mississippi. The have been happily married for 50 years.
Will founded Component Sales of Alabama Incorporated in 1972. The Company is a family owned Manufacturers Agency still in operation today. Will is survived by his wife, Jean; his three sons and daughters-in law, Michael and Jennifer, Greg and Lannette and Ken and Lisa Spencer. Will has seven grandchildren, Kenny, Will, Kayla, Graham, Caroline, Reagan and Ryann Spencer. Also, three stepgrandchildren, Michael, Samuel and Katy Kaholokula.
Will was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a respected business man in the community. He will be dearly missed by all.
