Obituary

William Clyde Barnett Jr., age 73, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026. He was born on May 20, 1953 in Hamilton, Alabama. He grew up in Waterloo, and spent the last 40 years of his life with his beloved wife, Norma in Florence. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends as Papaw William, Uncle William, Cat Daddy, Cap’n Willie or Jr.

William never needed much to be happy – a fishing pole in his hand, something good cooking on the stove, an Alabama football game on TV, and the people he loved nearby. He was known for his sense of humor and his ability to make everyone feel like family. Chances are everyone has a story that will make them smile every time they think of him. His tenacity, sense of humor, and the memories shared with him will remain treasured by all who knew him.

William is preceded in death by his father, William Clyde Barnett, Sr., his mother, Gertrude Barnett and his brother, Howard Barnett.

William is survived by his loving wife, Norma Barnett; his daughters, Jennifer Lovett (Phillip) and Missy Stooksberry (Scott); and his grandchildren, Chelsea Dawson, Parker Lovett, Brooklyn Stooksberry, Brennan Stooksberry and Mitchell Stooksberry. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to cherish his memory.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Preferred Hospice for the compassionate care, comfort, and support they provided to William and his family during his final days.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate William’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Barnett and Wright Cemetery located off Highway 227 in Cypress Inn, Tennessee with burial to follow.

Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember William and to wear their favorite Alabama gear to give him a final Roll Tide!
