Mr. William George Blasingame, Sr., 87, of Florence, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009 in Memphis, TN following a brief illness.
The funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Elkins Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Kilpatrick officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Blasingame was a locomotive engineer with Southern Railway and retired after 42 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and is a member of the Central Heights Church of Christ.
He loved his family and spent a lot of time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Wylodean Blasingame; son, William George "Billy" Blasingame, Jr. and wife Judy; daughters,, Martha Blasingame, Vergia Hayes and husband Tim, and Sheila Hester and husband Keith, all of Florence; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and a sister, Lila Henry, Harriman TN.
Mr. Blasingame was preceded in death by his parents, Lester A. Blasingame and Verda Tackett Blasingame, sister, Joyce Fullwood, and brothers James A., Ernest N., Floyd C., and Charles D. Blasingame.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
