Obituary

William "Billy" Paul Irons, age 78, of Killen, passed away on Sunday December 27, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday December 30, 2009 at 2 pm in the chapel of Elkins Funeral Home of Florence with Bro. Ronnie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Tri Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday December 29, 2009 from 6 pm until 9 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Irons was an electrician and member of the IBEW local for 55 years. He was a mason and retired member of the Killen Volunteer Fire Department. Billy never met a stranger. He was always helping others and will be greatly missed. Mr. Irons is preceded in death by his parents, William and Clura Irons, and his brother, Ed Irons. He was a proud veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U. S. Army.
Mr. Irons is survived by his loving wife, Maxine P. Irons of Killen; his son, Phillip Paul Irons (Jayla) of St. Florian; his stepchildren, Sheila Jones (William)of Cockranville, PA, and Richard Ponder (Sherri) of Florence; his step grandchild, Christopher Ponder of Vail, CO; his pets, Susie and "Little One"; his little buddy, Phillip K. Merritt; and numerous friends.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Local IBEW will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorials and donations may be made in Mr. Irons name to the Lauderdale Co. Animal Shelter in Florence or to P.A.W.S.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Killen Ambulance Service and the Killen Police Department.
