Obituary

William Bailey Lyle, Sr., age 84, of Decatur died on Saturday September 11, 2010 at Decatur General Hospital. He was born on January 21, 1926 in Decatur, Alabama to Samuel Felton and Mary Helen Johnston Lyle.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 18, 2010 at 3pm at Central United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 1pm until 3pm at the church.
Mr. Lyle was a lifelong resident of Decatur where he graduated from Riverside High School in 1944. At the age of 18, he volunteered for the United States Navy and was accepted into the Officer Aviator Training Program. Mr. Lyle attended Newberry College in South Carolina and the University of South Carolina as part of the program. Mr. Lyle graduated from Auburn University in 1948 where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He went to work at Wolverine Tube in 1948 and became a Production Planning Manager, where he retired in 1986 after 38 years of service.
Mr. Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Felton Lyle and Mary Helen Johnston Lyle; his son, William Bailey Lyle, Jr. ; his brothers, Harold J. Lyle, Samuel Felton "Jack" Lyle, and Dr. John Swift Lyle; and his sister, Mary Helen Fretwell.
Mr. Lyle is survived by his wife, Wynelle Hall Lyle of Priceville; his daughter, Julie Huber of Lexington, SC; his grandchildren, William Bailey Lyle III (Felicia), Lindsay Masone (Rob), Meredith Reynolds (Mark), Randal Lee Huber, Jr., and Amy Lauren Huber; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
