Funeral for William Hoyt Nelson, 81, of Moulton will be Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Hartselle Church of Christ, 700 Sparkman Street, Hartselle, AL 35640, with ministers Bill Irby, Phillip Hines and Demar Elam officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 and Wednesday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Mr. Nelson, who died Sunday, September 25, 2011, was born January 18, 1930, in Alexander City to William Olin Nelson and Iula Jones Nelson. He was a Church of Christ minister for over 55 years. He was also the founder of Camp Wiregrass for youth in Enterprise and did extensive missionary work throughout the Ukraine, Romania, the Caribbean and southeastern United States. He was the former editor of the Alexander City Outlook and a graduate of Auburn University. His wife of 55 years, Gueldine Trussell Nelson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Ken Nelson (Bertha) of Moulton; one daughter, Monya Deen Claborn (Mitch) of Athens; four grandchildren, Heath Claborn (Mary), Heather Claborn, Ross Nelson (Ashley) and Rachel Nelson; and three great-grandchildren, McKinley Stack, Mary Catherine Stack and Cade Glasgow.
Pallbearers will be Ross Nelson, Heath Claborn, Joseph Peebles, Ken Johnson, Bobby Burch and Stanley Johnson.
