Obituary

William "Bill" Tyrus Watson age 96 of Florence passed away on Thursday November 12, 2015. Visitation will be Saturday November 14, 2015 from 12:30 P.M. till 1:30 P.M. at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. Graveside Service will be held at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens at 2:00 P.M. with Kenny Barfield and Sid Fulford officiating.

W.T. was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, GladysWatson. Two brother-in-laws, Carl Hovater and Walter Calloway.

He is survived by two sons, Greg Watson (Beverly) of Florence and Garry Watson (Pam) of Bremerton,Washington. Four grandchildren, Gregory Watson (Britton) of Florence, Ty Watson (Misty) of Florence, Zach Watson (Robin) of Madison and Gil Watson (Kim) of Florence. Eight great-grandchildren, Win, Austin Hall and Lottie Watson of Florence, Jackson and Cody Watson of Florence, Hadley Beth and Jace Watson of Madison and Natalie Watson of Florence. One sister Stella Calloway of Florence. Two sister-in-laws Elosie Brown of Huntsville and Rumell Hovater of Russiville. Several nieces and nephews.

W.T. "Bill" Watson began his career as a assistant hospital administrator at ECM. He opened and served as administrator of Guntersville Hospital and Rolling Acres Nursing Home and he helped start Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home. He served on the board of North Alabama Christian Childrens Home and retired from Humana Hospital of the Shoals which he opened and served as administrator.

Bill was a member and Deacon at Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ. He served our country in Italy as a medic in World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 11. One of his most proud memories was participating in the Honors flight for WW II veterans to Washington, D.C.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was the president of the conservation club in the 50''s when white tail deer were reintroduced in to Waterloo, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Murphy, Clifford Miles, Tommy Thompson and D.C. Osteen.

The family wishes to thank the 300 station at Mitchell Hollingsworth for their excellent care of their Dad and to a Connie Winborn a special care giver and friend.

In lieu of flowers donations are requested to be made to the North Alabama Christian Childrens Home.
