William Claude Wood, Jr. age 83, of Florence, passed away on Saturday January 24, 2009 at his residence.
A graveside service will be held for Mr. Wood on Tuesday January 27, 2009 at 11 am at Tri Cities Memorial Gardens with Wayne Wood officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday January 26, 2009 from 6 pm until 9 pm at Elkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Janie Wood; his son, Jerry Wood; his parents, William Claude Wood, Sr. and Bessie Hudson Wood; and his brothers, Teddy Ralph and Rexie Wood. Mr. Wood was an Army veteran of WWII. He loved to travel and visit friends, and loved to listen to bluegrass and gospel music.
Mr. Wood is survived by his daughters, Billie Jones, Bonnie Lanier, Deborah Aday, and Teddie Gray; his sons, Ricky, Hamp, and Tony Wood; his sister, Tommie Sue Risner; his brothers, John, Jack, and Jerry Wood; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brian Johnson, Brad Young, James Jones, Dustin Gray, Mitchell Terry, Chris Wood, Wade Wood, and Trevor Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Wood, Hamp Wood, Tony Wood, Sam Aday, and Tommy Jones.
