Mrs. Winnie Jewell Dowdy Gray, 95, of Florence, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at ECM Hospital. A service for Mrs. Gray will be at Eastwood Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Friday, November 21 with the burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Sonny Owens and Charles Kretzer will officiate. There was a visitation Thursday November 20 at Elkins Funeral Home.
Winnie was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl M. Dowdy and Tom Gray; son, Earl M. Dowdy, Jr. and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Gray was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and her church family dearly.
Mrs. Gray is survived by her sons, William Dowdy of Florence, Roy (Janet) Dowdy of Sheffield; daughters, Jewell Phillips, Louise Rogers and Josephine (Buford) Durham, all of Florence; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
